The best part about living in Long Beach is meandering through El Dorado Nature Center.
A natural haven in the middle of the city, nestled between the San Gabriel River and the 605 Freeway, El Dorado Nature Center is an oasis of natural habitat. They have a beautiful mission statement that encompasses the natural world and its community members, “El Dorado Nature Center is dedicated to the enhancement of wildlife habitat and the human spirit. Through education, citizen involvement opportunities, habitat restoration, and leisure activities, the Center cultivates among all members of the community a sense of respect, understanding, and stewardship for the natural world.”
The grounds cover just over 100 acres providing a sanctuary to both animal and plant life. The two mile dirt path winds through trees, lakes and a stream. You’re sure to see some wild life on your walk from squirrels and chipmunks to wild birds, rabbits and turtles wading in the water.
This is the perfect escape away from the hustle and bustle of the city life without the drive to the nearest mountain top! It also makes for a great family afternoon!
